Hello from Luma!

Dear Luma Village,

What an incredible week we had! From Slime in the Sukkah to Dad’s Night Out, there were so many ways to connect, relax, have fun, and just be together.

We had such a great time at Slime in the Sukkah! Around 45–50 people stopped by throughout the afternoon, and families came and went whenever it worked for them. They could stay as long as they were able and head out when they needed to — because our programs are designed to be flexible and fit each family’s needs.

There was slime (a huge hit!), a water slide, food, kids running around, teens jumping in, families connecting, and so many little moments that never made it into a photo.

And that’s the thing about a Luma event. It’s not just about what we planned. It’s about the people who show up, the connections that happen, and all the moments in between.

A huge thank you to our Luma Teen Board for putting together our very first holiday party! And a special shoutout to Liya Klinghoffer for organizing the beautiful decor and banner.

Later in the week, we had a relaxing Dad’s Night Out, where we got to see a different kind of connection happen. Sometimes it’s hard to find someone who just gets it — no explanations needed. The dads hung out, talked, laughed, and enjoyed beer, biltong, freshly made coffee cake, and plenty of good conversation. We’re already planning our next Dad’s Night Out for the last week of October. More details coming soon!

And now we’re getting ready for Luma One-to-One. This week, you’ll be hearing from one of us about getting started. We have so many amazing volunteers eager to meet your families and become a little part of your child’s world. Thank you for opening your homes and creating a safe space where these teens can build a one-to-one connection with your child.

There is so much happening at Luma this month. Keep scrolling to see what’s coming up!

We’re looking forward to an amazing October filled with lots of good things to come!

Wishing you all a Good Shabbos,
Zally & Esti Lazarus
